The development of a strong bond between implant surface and the surrounding bone substance, called osseointegration is important for successful integration of a dental implant. The coating of dental implants with chitosan is a promising approach to enable an accelerated and improved integration. In the following, we present two publications about chitosan-based coatings for dental implants.
Functional coatings are applied to improve resistance of implants like artificial heart valves or coronary stents against various impacts in the human body. One problem is the formation of biofilms on the implant surface, which limits communication of the implant with the surrounding area and might induce inflammatory reactions. In addition, nature of the implant material can promote the formation of blood clots, which leads to blocked arteries.
As our name implies: we produce chitosans for pharmaceutical industry and research. The positively charged chitosan (C+) is a great molecule to connect people from all over the world.
HMC+ wants to be part of this and help to connect people, universities and industry with high quality chitosan-based products. We offer the best chitosans and the knowledge to support you in your process or research. Our ambition is to manufacture chitosan with consistently excellent quality made in Germany for your final products or research interests. The chemical properties of our products are within very narrow specification limits. This is a guarantor and decisive advantage for your sustainable product development and solution-oriented purchasing. In addition, we are attaching great importance to collaborations with researchers at globally renowned universities.
Abstract of the oral presentation at 13th EUCHIS 31st May-3rd June 2017.
More than 2000 publications and 20 published clinical trials within the last 12 month show that chitosan and chitosan derivatives are still attractive for the medical industry. As producer of well defined and pure chitosans and chitosan derivatives for pharmaceutical applications, with more than one hundred different specification for chitosans on the market and around 300 production batches per year HMC is always on the pulse of the market and in contact with regulatories and pharmaceutical companies worldwide.
In March 2017, 215 articles were released about chitosan and chitosan derivatives. The top three nations in chitosan research are China (59), India (32) and USA (27). Main focuses were nanoparticels, evaluation studies and pharmaceutical preparations.
The next Euopean Conference on Chitin and Chitosan will take place in Seville Spain end of May. Katja Richter from HMC will join the meeting. Beside her function as Assistant Treasurer of the Euorpean Chitin and Chitosan Society she also makes use of the opportunity to meet customers and co-operation partners. The congress will reflect the new trends of chitin and chitosan in Europe as well as from iberoamerican countries. Of course the congress is open for contributions from all over the world.
