HMC+ in the Leipzig Zoo

On Monday, August 16, 2010 curator Ruben Holland welcomed us in the Leipzig Zoo. To quickly satisfy our great curiosity, we took the direct way to get to see Tou Feng and Quesan. While the female pangolin Quesan peacefully slept in her roost, Schuppi longingly waited for us – or probably rather for his feeding.
Zoo keeper Ms. Schwind explained and demonstrated expertly what distinguishes Chinese pangolins. What’s so special about their species-appropriate keeping and why these animals are worth being protected. And we had the chance to become acquainted with Schuppi in person. Before going to bed, he demonstrated how much he likes his chitin-paste.
After this successful start to our company trip we were guided by Ruben Holland through the zoo. Before and behind the scenes we got to know all kinds of animals and came to know a lot about the particularities and adequate keeping of various species.
An African Style refreshment in the Kiwara Lodge gave new energy to continue the discovery tour on our own. We attended a lions, hyena and meerkats animation by the famous keeper Jörg Gräser, known from the zoo-documentation “Elephant, Tiger & Co.”
Altogether we enjoyed an eventful day with beautiful animals and we heard and learned a lot of interesting news. We would like to thank our chief Katja Heppe and the zoo for this wonderful day. We fully recommend a visit to the Leipzig Zoo and can’t wait to go there again.
Yours sincerely Anika Münch
